Groundwater Department Activities in the District:

The Department has been conducting Groundwater investigations for different Agencies / Departments mainly SC Corporation, Tribal welfare, TS-iPASS, TS-WALTA, Other Surveys for institutions and organizations etc., and site selections for Percolation tanks and Check dams, Artificial Recharge Structures.

Monitoring of Groundwater Levels:

Ground Water Department has been monitoring every month from specified 26 purpose built Piezometers and 2 Observation wells spread over 15 Mandals of Medchal – Malkajgiri District. The collected Groundwater levels shall be analyzed and submit report on ground water Scenario to the Government, District Administrator, Planning Department, etc., for every month.  Dissemination the District Groundwater Scenario to the concerned departments / organizations from time to time through mail and news papers.

Mission Kakatiya Scheme:

Under Impact studies on Mission Kakatiya Scheme, the department has been monitoring groundwater levels regularly from 15 observation wells selected in the influence and non- influence zones of three tanks at Appalai Cheruvu of Railapur village, Pedda Cheruvu of Ravalkole village and Patel Kunta of Rajabollaram Tanda of Medchal Mandal to analyse the impact of ground water levels.

Water Quality:

Ground Water Department has been preparing water quality reports for the periods pre-monsoon (May) and post-monsoon (November) every year duly collecting water samples from observation wells and Piezometers.

Groundwater Resources Estimations Committee:

In Medchal – Malkajgiri District Groundwater Resource Estimations (2016-17) have been carried out on the basis of water shed concept and assessed the net ground water availability, utilization and balance resources for future.

Groundwater availability   :   7754 Ha.m.

Groundwater utilization    :   7284 Ha.m.

Balance Groundwater        :     470 Ha.m.

Stage of Development       :      94% (Critical)

In the District 72 villages are categorized as Over Exploited (OE). In these villages permission will be given for drilling of bore wells only for drinking / domestic purpose and for agriculture and Industries purpose permission will not be accorded.

National Hydrology Project:

The Department is taking up drilling of 19 Piezometers in the District to improve the monitoring network.

The Department has installed 4 Digital Water level Recorders with Telemeter in the piezometer at TS Forest Office, Doolapalli, JNTUH, Kukatpalli, Electrical Sub-Station, Cherlapalli and Veterinary Hospital, Alwal at the rate of 6 hourly data frequency under National Hydrology Project

Purpose Driven Study (PDS) is being taken up on “Impact of Urbanization in Groundwater Quality and Quantity and its Management in GHMC, Hyderabad”.

Medchal-Malkajgiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad and some part of Sangareddy covered in this project.

The mandals covered under this study are Qutubullapur, Balanagar, Kukatpally, Malkajgiri, Kapra and Uppal. 53 Observation wells fixed in these mandals and monitoring is being carried out monthly and water samples are being collected in pre-monsoon (May) and Post-Monsoon (November) to study the Pre-Project Scenario.

Awareness Raising Activity:

Under National Hydrology Project conducted awareness programme on water conservation among farmers at Laxmapur village of Mudchintalpalli mandal.

Construction of Artificial Recharge Structures:

In Chief Ministers assured villages of Laxmapur and Keshavaram of M.C. Pally Mandal (formerly Shamirpet Mandal) constructed 31 Artificial Recharge Shafts near Cheruvus, Check Dams and Kuntas for quick recharge of ground water. 35 Observation wells were fixed near Artificial Recharge Shafts and monitoring is being carried out monthly to analyze the impact of ground water levels. Before construction of Recharge Shafts the water levels were deeper and after construction of Recharge Shafts the water levels i.e., average depth to ground water levels in nearby borewells increased by 10.00 mts. to 13.00 mts.

At Upparapalli village of Shamirpet Mandal the Department has taken up Groundwater investigation and drilled bore well at TRAUMA CENTRE proposed by the Red Cross Society.
